WHAT'S HAPPENING

Wirimbirra Hearing Pogram - Our hearing Program is for Aboriginal and Torres strait islander children 0-6 years. Ngroo Education has partnered up with Hearing Australia’s- HAPEE Program. We work together to tackle serious ear and hearing troubles that affect 1 in 3 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids in Australia.  Collectively with our partners at Hearing Australia -HAPEE Program and Kimberwalli, we aim to provide free, safe, and simple hearing checks to our mob out in the Western Sydney community.

Our Hearing Program runs from Kimberwalli every 8 weeks and offers up to 9 appointments each session. We held our first program on 20th of October 2022 which 5 children successfully had Hearing assessments. We also had the wonderful Hearing Australia team at our School Readiness Day on the 13th of October 2022 where 7 children had their Hearing checks.

We understand the importance of Hearing Checks in our community and the Ngroo Education Inc team are passionate to expand and offer our program to more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children this year and more frequently with the support of our partners.

Guwaa-li Speech Therapy Program- Ngroo Education Incorporated was successful in obtaining philanthropic funding through CAGES Foundation. The funds that we were successful in obtaining gave us an opportunity to provide free speech therapy and/or assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who reside in the Blacktown LGA. Priority is given to any Aboriginal Child from the ages of 4 to 5 years of age and who hasn’t received any Speech intervention. Majority of our referrals come from our Aboriginal Families as First Teachers & Connected Beginnings Program.

Ngroo has partnered with Kimberwalli where the program is run out of every Wednesday during school term from 9:30am-3:30pm. Ngroo Education also partnered with Care2Communicate to run the speech therapy with a qualified speech therapist.

Connecting back to self-Program- The Connected Beginnings team has partnered with Little Moons Healing space and wrote a program that is culturally appropriate, has positive outcomes, and something they can continue to use after the program has finished. Connecting back to-self is a healing program for parents and children who are wanting assistance to deal with their past trauma, anxiety, and stress and what’s going on inside of you. It’s to help you become grounded and present within so that you can begin to look at life with clarity, purpose and vision and start building a life you want to be living without so much Anxiety, Stress, and heaviness causing chaos in our lives.

This program is currently being run from Kimberwalli, once a week over 8 weeks. We currently have 10 Mums & Bubs attending this program.

This February ABCD Training- What is Asset Based Community Development?

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is a globally adopted approach that recognises and builds on the strengths, gifts, talents and resources of individuals and communities to create strong, inclusive, and sustainable communities. ABCD is a powerful approach to community engagement and development that focuses on abilities and potential, rather than problems and deficits by discovering the resources that are already present in a community. Discovering community strengths is a powerful and productive way to address problems and realise a collective vision. By building relationships and creating the space for opportunities to emerge, community members become powerful and are more in control of their own decision making.
